Console commands
Everything here is typed into Skyrim’s own console, on your own machine. You don’t need to be an admin, and you can’t break the server with it.
These commands only affect you
Anything you add — gold, items, levels — exists only on your own game. It is not sent to anyone else, and you cannot use this to give a friend an item. If someone wants 1,000 gold, they run the command themselves.
Item dropping is turned off on this server (bEnableItemDrops=false), so don’t plan on dropping something for someone to pick up either.
Using the console disables achievements
Opening the console and running a command disables Steam achievements for that save, permanently, in an unmodded game. If you care about achievements on this character, don’t use the console on it.
Mods exist that re-enable them, but assume they’re off unless you have installed one.
The basics
Press ~ (tilde, above Tab) to open the console. Type a command, press Enter, press ~ again to close.
- The console pauses your game — but not the server. Everyone else keeps playing while you have it open, so don’t leave it open mid-fight.
- On a controller? The console needs a real keyboard. If you play on a controller, either keep a keyboard within reach or bind tilde through Steam Input.
- Commands are not case-sensitive.
player.additemandPlayer.AddItemboth work. - If a lot of text scrolls past, use Page Up and Page Down to scroll the console.
Getting items
The command is:
player.additem <FormID> <count>So player.additem 0000000F 1000 gives you 1,000 gold, and player.additem 0005ACE4 20 gives you 20 iron ingots.
Finding the ID for anything not in the table
There are thousands of items, so the table below is only the commonly wanted ones. For everything else, search in-game:
help "ebony sword" 0Put the name in quotes, and use 0 to search everything (or 4 to narrow it to items). The console prints matching entries with their IDs — look for the WEAP, ARMO or MISC lines and copy the 8-character code.
This is also the only reliable way to get IDs for items added by mods, because those IDs change depending on your load order — they differ between you and your friends.
Commonly wanted items
Every ID below was read directly out of the game’s own data files, so they are correct for the base game and stable on every install.

Skills and levelling
There are two commands and they behave very differently.
player.advskill <skill> <xp>
Grants experience, exactly as if you had earned it. This produces real level-ups, which means you get perk points.
player.advskill smithing 5000
XP values differ wildly per skill — 200 barely moves Speech but can rocket Enchanting up 60 levels. Start small and repeat.
This is almost always the one you want.
player.setav <skill> <number>
Sets the skill number directly. It does not count as levelling, so you get no perk points and your character level does not move.
player.setav marksman 100
Catches people out constantly: the number looks right but the perk tree stays locked. Use advskill unless you specifically want the cosmetic number.
Skill names for these commands
Two skills are not called what you’d expect. If a skill command seems to do nothing, this is usually why.

Getting unstuck
Fell through the floor, or wedged in the scenery? Try these in order.
- Ask the party leader to teleport you. In the Skyrim Together party menu, the leader has a Teleport button next to each player. This is the cleanest fix and needs no console at all. (If you don’t see the buttons, you’re not the leader — ask whoever is.)
tcl— turns off collision so you can walk out through walls and floors. Runtclagain to turn it back on. Leaving it on will cause you problems later.coc whiterun— teleports you to a named place. Good escape hatch if you’re badly stuck. Other useful ones:coc riverwood, coc riften, coc solitude.
Avoid coc qasmoke (the developer test room). It is easy to get trapped in, and it is a good way to desync yourself from everyone else.
Quality of life
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
tgm | God mode — no damage, no encumbrance, infinite everything. Run again to turn off. |
tim | Immortal mode. You still take damage but can’t die. Gentler than tgm. |
tfc | Free camera — detaches the camera for screenshots. tfc 1 also freezes everything. Run again to exit. |
unlock | Click a door or chest with the console open, then type this to unlock it. |
psb | Gives you every spell and shout in the game. Genuinely messy — it clutters your magic menu permanently. |
showracemenu | Reopens character creation to change your appearance. Careful: changing race or sex can reset your perks and skills. Changing only the face is generally safe. Expect other players to still see your old look until you reconnect. |
Waiting for daylight?
You don’t have to. Time of day is a server setting, so ask whoever runs the server — they can set the clock for everyone at once with SetTime (and the date with SetDate) from the server console. That does affect everybody, unlike everything else on this page.
